It is believed that the primary cause of morning sickness is the significant hormonal changes that are occurring in the body when you are pregnant. Many find that it is more severe during their first pregnancy as the body is better conditioned to deal with these changes in later pregnancies. Digestive problems and strong scents have been shown to exacerbate the problem.
Morning sickness does not afflict all pregnant women. Studies indicate that nearly two thirds of all pregnant women will feel the effects at some point. It can start as early as the first week of pregnancy and can last right to the end, however most report the effects subsiding around the fifteenth week.
Women who are carrying twins or triples may be more apt to have morning sickness. Someone who is also predisposed to motion sickness or suffers from migraines is also more likely to have it. And yet many other women get it for apparently no reason at all.
You might find it helps to eat as soon as you rise from bed. This is due to the fact that symptoms are more severe on an empty stomach. Just don’t over do it and sip lightly on beverages. If it helps, keep healthy snacks in your night table drawer.
Not trying to function on an empty stomach can be helpful too. Keep nutritious snacks handy and eat those to keep the nausea at bay. Whole wheat crackers, breads and dried fruit are all good suggestions for a healthy bite to eat and does not contain much sugar. If you do make a habit of ingesting these then you can also avoid binge snacking on unhealthy choices that can lead to unnecessary weight gain and a greater risk of getting stretch marks.
Interesting is that women in the eastern parts of the world usually do not suffer from morning sickness. This is because they are accustomed to preventing it by avoiding the known triggers. By paying attention to what your body is telling you and reacting accordingly, you too can minimize these effects.
Pregnancy can be an very enjoyable and exciting time in a woman’s life. You do not want to spend it worrying about constantly feeling sick. Morning sickness stresses your day to day functionality including time spent working and with family and friends. By taking the time to prevent what you can and treating the rest you can mostly avoid the worse of what this common condition afflicts.
